History of the RLT
RLT Objectives & Aims
REGINA LITTLE THEATRE ( RLT ) was founded
in 1926, and is the oldest, continually-producing, English-speaking
theatre group in Western Canada (see E. Ross Stuart's 1984 book, The
History of Prairie Theatre ). RLT is a community theatre company
that engages amateur (primarily) and professional participants in
all aspects of production and administration.
- RLT is a charitable corporation and is operated as a
not-for-profit organization in accordance with The Non-profit
Corporations Act 1995 of the Province of Saskatchewan .
- RLT is a registered charity and is operated as such in
accordance with The Income Tax Act of Canada , administered by
Canada Revenue Agency.
- RLT is a member of Theatre Saskatchewan Inc. , the provincial
community theatre organization.
- RLT is a member of Theatre Regina Inc. , who owns and operates
the Regina Performing Arts Centre, where RLT is a tenant.
Currently the events of an RLT season include: an annual general
meeting (early September), a season-opening fundraiser gala, five
full-length mainstage plays, two sets of one-act plays and a
volunteer appreciation party. From time to time RLT hosts workshops
and a playwrighting contest. RLT often also participates in theatre
festivals.
Objectives
The objectives of the society are the promotion,
encouragement, study and public performance of theatre, stagecraft and
dramatic literature.
Specific Aims
- To foster and encourage community theatre and amateur
theatre in Regina and surrounding area.
- To foster and encourage awareness of all facets of
community theatre and amateur theatre production.
- To foster and encourage artistic and practical
development of members through play productions, workshops and
mentoring.
- To collect and make available materials supportive
to the development of theatre for the Society and for the use of
other like-minded organizations.
- To stimulate co-operation between the Society and
all persons and organizations active in community theatre and
amateur theatre, particularly those in Saskatchewan, whose
objectives advance theatre.
