About the play

RLT presents fun filled, family play to celebrate the festive season

Regina Little Theatre is celebrating the festive season with the production of the much-loved, family favourite, A Christmas Story.

Based on the movie with the same name, A Christmas Story focuses on the amusing narration of Ralph Parker, who fondly recalls memories of the three weeks leading up to Christmas in Hohman, Indiana in 1938. The play consists of a series of short scenes in which Ralph's memories are played out, and which feature his family, childhood friends, love interests and bullies.

The play features many of the scenes so dearly loved in the 1983 Warner Brothers movie, including Flick's tongue getting stuck to a lamppost, The Old Man's leg-shaped lamp, the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin, and Ralphie's endless quest for a legendary official Red Ryder 200-Shot Carbine Action Range Model Air Rifle.

"When RLT asked me to direct this show I said 'Yes!' right away because I have always liked the show," said director Jean Taylor. "It's a good family show and I think the audience can expect a fun-filled night of family entertainment."

The play involves the creative efforts of several young cast members, including eight-year-old Hudson Herrell, who plays Ralphie, the younger version of Ralph Parker.

"The young cast members have been working hard and they're excited to get onstage with the adults and present the play to an audience," Taylor said. "In fact, some of them had their lines memorized long before the adult cast members had memorized theirs!"

Taylor believes the main message of the play is that for the most part, life is pretty good, and adults have the ability to relive younger moments through children. Indeed, Taylor believes audience members will be swept up in the comedy and will reminisce about their own childhood and Christmases past.

A Christmas Story runs November 30 to December 3, 2005 at the Regina Performing Arts Centre, 1077 Angus Street. For ticket information, call the box office at 779-2277.
