ABOUT THE CONTEST

The author(s) of the winning play/script will receive a cash award of not less that $750. The play may — at RLT’s discretion — be produced under contract by RLT during its 2007 - 2008 season.

Standard amateur royalties (10% of box office) will be paid for a run of two (2) performances. The script remains the property of the playwright but cannot be performed by an amateur or professional production prior to its premiere by RLT.

Starting/Closing Dates: Dec. 1, 2006 – Feb. 28, 2007
Entry fee per play: $25
Prize money: not less than $750
Announcement of winner: June 15, 2007

THE JUDGING

  • Judging is blind, meaning judges will not know the authors of any script.
  • Identity of the judges will remain confidential until the close of the contest, at which time the judges' names will appear on RLT's website.
  • Manuscripts will not be critiqued or returned.
  • The decision of the judges is final.
  • Regina Little Theatre is an amateur community theatre. While we encourage thoughtful and innovative writing, scripts with highly experimental plots, extreme violence and/or graphic sex, and scripts involving expensive sets or unusual casting (no elephants!) may not make the final cut.
  • The winning play must be performable on a conventional box stage.

CONTEST RULES

  • There is no restriction on the gender or age of characters.
  • Only new, original, one-act plays between 20 and 60 minutes in length are eligible. Please do not send musicals, works in progress or adaptations of other works.
  • Plays that have been work-shopped but not publicly performed are eligible.
  • Entrants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants as of close of the contest.
  • All entries must be received by Feb. 28, 2007.
  • Submit one copy of the play. The copy must be in English, typed, single-sided on 8½ x 11" white paper. Good quality photocopies are acceptable.
  • Please follow a standard practice for formatting plays. Some good sites to view with instructions on formatting a script include Kennesaw State University's format guidelines (note: this is a Word document), or Playwrights' Center of San Francisco script format (PDF).
  • Authors name(s) must not appear on the script.
  • Electronic/disk/e-mail submissions WILL be accepted in either WORD, PDF, RTF, or TXT format.
  • Each script must be accompanied by a completed entry form and the entry fee.
  • A separate entry fee is required for each play submitted. You may choose to pay by cash, cheque or money order, or credit card. Please make cheques or money orders payable to Regina Little Theatre Society, Inc.
  • Please e-mail your entry to rlt@sasktel.net or mail it to the address at the bottom of this screen.
