Shut and Bar the Door
A farce by Tom Gray
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
Directed by Carri Lelliott
This farcical play based on an old English ballad is written in the tradition of commedia dell’arte, including asides. It is set in Merry Old England during the 13th century and has an “old time movie” quality. Lenore, a peasant housewife, and John, her shepherd husband, have a disagreement over who should shut and bar the door. The argument is carried to ridiculous proportions and ends in a challenge where both agree to remain mute until one surrenders. During their self-imposed silence, the couple is threatened by robbers and scolded by a lost princess searching for her prince.
Duration: 40 minutes
Information about other plays will be posted as they become known.
