Regina Little Theatre is a non-profit community theatre company that engages its members in all aspects of production and administration. These volunteers work at a wide range of jobs to ensure each show is a success. Acting, directing, set construction, stage management, lighting, costumes, and makeup are just some of the areas in which people donate their time and talents.
A typical RLT season runs from September through June and includes five full-length plays and two sets of one-act Cabarets that are presented at the Regina Performing Arts Centre(1077 Angus Street at 4th Avenue). Each production is given a small budget to cover the cost of materials, supplies, and services. Regina Little Theatre's extensive collection of costumes, props, furniture, and set pieces is also utilized.
Each main stage play is presented on four consecutive evenings, from Wednesday through Saturday. Prior to each show and during intermission, beverages and snacks can be purchased at RLT's concession. After Friday night's performance, a Greenroom Party is held that offers a buffet and cash bar. The Greenroom Party provides an opportunity for audience members and supporters to mingle with the production's cast and crew.
Regina Little Theatre's one-act cabarets, which include food services and a cash bar, are traditionally held in October and May. These sets of one-act plays are presented on Friday and Saturday nights and provide new volunteers with opportunities to develop their skills while working on smaller shows. Many newcomers who participate in the one-act plays eventually move on to main stage productions.
Regina Little Theatre strives to provide balanced seasons. In any given year, a mix of comedies, dramas, mysteries, and farces may be presented. Works by well-known playwrights, along with those of emerging writers, can be part of the company's offerings. While a few productions may be avant-garde, most are tried and true tales that have broad appeal.
Regina Little Theatre regularly participates in Theatre Saskatchewan's provincial one-act and full-length drama festivals. Other RLT activities include workshops, play writing contests, and fundraisers.
